After nearly a two-year hiatus, Boca Raton middleweight Charles McCarthy returns to Ultimate Fighting Championship tonight on UFC 83 at Montreal's Bell Centre.
McCarthy, co-owner of American Top Team East Boca Raton/Delray Beach, will try and spoil the 185-pound debut of Michael Bisping.
McCarthy, a submission specialist, has not fought in the UFC since 2006
because of knee surgery. Bisping is coming off a split decision loss to
Rashad Evans. Before losing to Evans, Bisping won his previous four UFC
fights and 15 without a loss overall.
In the main event, American Matt Serra, 33, will defend his UFC
welterweight crown against Canadian Georges St-Pierre, 26. In April
2007, Serra won their first meeting stripping St-Pierre of the title.
Other top matchups are Travis Lutter-Rich Franklin, Nate Quarry-Kalib
Starnes and Mark Bocek-Mac Danzig. The card will be televised on
pay-per-view beginning at 10 p.m.
Elsewhere
Benji Radach, of Deerfield Beach, and Brazilian
Wagnney Fabiano, of Boca Raton, will be among those highlighted from past shows on tonight's Fox Sports Net's IFL Fight Night.
The bouts were held as part of the IFL World Grand Prix semifinal that
led to the crowning of IFL champions in six weight classes.
Fabiano puts his unbeaten IFL mark on the line against Las Vegas'
John Gunderson. Radach fights Canadian
Brent Beauparlant in a bout pitting two of the league's best punchers.
